A Jetstar plane with 128 passengers on board flew dangerously below the safe altitude limit when landing in Christchurch, a report has found.
The Transport Accident Investigation Commission was tasked with investigating the landing of the Jetstar A320 from Wellington on August 6, 2017.
A report was released on Thursday outlining the 'very serious' safety breach.

'At about 18:45 on 6 August 2017, an Airbus A320 aeroplane was approaching Christchurch with 128 passengers and six crew on board,' the report read.
'During the arrival procedure the aeroplane inadvertently descended below the 2,500-foot (760-metre) minimum safe altitude for part of the arrival procedure.'
The air traffic controller noticed the plane had gone below the safe altitude limit but did not inform the pilots or crew until they had landed.
According to the report the plane went below the safe altitude because the crew did maintain adequate situational awareness of their aeroplane’s location.
