The wife of a truck driver accused of causing a 28-car pile-up that killed four people on a Colorado highway last Thursday has launched a fundraising page to help pay for his defense.

The page has already raised $20,000 - half of its target - in three days.

Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos, 23, was arrested on four counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault after the crash and remains in the custody of the Lakewood police in Jefferson County.

However, he has not been officially charged and is jailed on a $400,000 bond.

He appeared in court on Saturday as a judge declared there was probable cause for him to stay in detention. He is due back in court on Friday.
