Crystal Lake, Illinois boy AJ Freund, 5, was murdered and his body found in a shallow grave on April 24
Shocking photos reveal the filthy and deplorable state of AJ Freund's parent's Illinois home in 2012 and 2013, just months before he was born.
Five-year-old Crystal Lake boy AJ Freund was murdered, suffering multiple blunt force injuries to the head, and his body was found buried in a shallow grave in a field on April 24.
His parents Andrew Freund, 60, and JoAnn Cunningham, 36, have been charged with the child's murder, a week after they reported him missing.
Investigators say that the Department of Child and Family Services had visited the Freund home 17 times over the last five years.
In those visits, authorities described the squalid condition of the home, the apparent drug use of the parents who are 'known and self-admitted prior narcotics abusers' and concern for the welfare of AJ and his four-year-old brother Parker.
Police said the home was found to be in 'hoarder-like condition' with garbage bags of 'wet refuse' stacked in the basement and garbage area when they visited following reports of AJ gone missing.
