John Rogers is defending his controversial statements on abortion and is firing back at his critics including Donald Trump Jr - slamming him as 'retarded' and saying his mother should have aborted him. On Tuesday Alabama passed a measure that will criminalize nearly all abortion in the state. Before the measure passed in a stunning 74-3 vote, Rogers, a 78-year-old Democrat, voiced his opposition saying with a controversial statement saying, 'Some kids are unwanted. So you kill them now or you kill them later.' Don Jr then blasted Rogers' statement on Wednesday on Twitter writing, 'This is stomach curling and makes Ralph Northam look like a moderate on abortion.' 'Every Democrat running for President needs to be asked where they stand on this. The extreme turn we've seen from Dems on abortion recently is truly sickening,' he continued. In an interview WVTM 13 on Thursday Rogers hit right back at the president's son, saying he should have been aborted himself. https://www.youtube.com/embed/6-ZGV6l6eL0?feature=oembed Alabama Democratic Rep. John Rogers, 78, defended his controversial comments on abortion and slammed Donald Trump Jr saying he is 'retarded' and should have been aborted himself in a shocking interview aired Thursday On Wednesday Don Jr slammed Rogers for his comments on abortion saying 'This is stomach curling and makes Ralph Northam look like a moderate on abortion' 'That proves I’m right to make a scene about abortion, him being born — that’s proof right there. Him being born - that’s a very very good defense I have for abortion. 'His mother should have aborted him when he was born and he wouldn’t have made that stupid statement, right? 'He’s evidently retarded. Uh, crazy. Donald Trump’s son, I know there’s something wrong with that boy,' the embattled Rep continued. He joked that it was an 'honor' to even be rebuked by Trump Jr on social media. The controversial measure passed in Alabama's GOP-led House on Tuesday and makes it a felony to perform an abortion at any stage of the pregnancy. The only exception is when there’s a serious risk to the mother’s health. Don Jr shared this response to Rogers statement prior to Alabama's anti-abortion bill where the 78-year-old Democratic Rep said: 'Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later' Don Jr pictured above with parents Ivana Trump and Donald Trump in June 1988. Rep. Rogers' defense of abortion took a dark turn when he said Don Jr should have been aborted by his mother while she was pregnant Democrats tried to amend the bill with an exemption for rape and incest, but the representatives voted 72-26 to table that measure. The bill is intended to make its way up to the Supreme Court and challenge Roe v. Wade, the historic decision that legalized abortion in the United States. Prior to the vote Rogers spoke in defense of abortion saying, 'I’m not about to … tell a woman what to do with her body. She has the right to make that decision herself.' 'Some kids are unwanted. So you kill them now or you kill them later. You bring them into the world unwanted, unloved — you send them to the electric chair. So, you kill them now or kill them later.' Following that bombshell statement, Rogers, of Birmingham, drew widespread criticism on social media. He defended himself saying he was trying to criticize politicians' focus on abortion as they neglect social services and his words were misconstrued. He said in a later interview that Alabama hasn't expanded Medicaid, has a violent prison system and has neglected social services. 'They are being hypocritical. They are killing them anyway,' he said. Read more: Share or comment on this article: All rights reserved for this news site dailymail and under his responsibility
