A light plane carrying three people flew upside down and crashed metres away from an airport runway.

A female pilot and two passengers, a man and a woman, were aboard the Cirrus SR20 when it was flipped upside down by a gust of wind before it crash landed near Tooradin Airport, one hour south-east of Melbourne, at 1.40pm on Friday.

Those aboard miraculously survived without any injuries or being taken to hospital.
