A man who failed a breathalyser test in east China insisted that he hadn't consumed any alcohol - only several pieces of the pungent-smelling durian fruit.
The driver, surnamed Jiang, was pulled over by traffic police in Nantong, Jiangsu province on April 17 after being suspected of drink-driving.
The man protested after he failed the roadside breath test, saying: 'I didn't drink! I've still got the husk of the durian I just ate. Take me for a blood test.'
The unconvinced policemen then took him to the hospital for a blood test, which proved that there was no alcohol in his system, putting the man in the clear, according to Jiangsu Television.
