Ivan Maletych died after suffering burns on 70 percent of his body following the incident in the village of Susidovychi in southern Ukraine's Lviv Oblast region. The boy was ready to be transported to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Boston, United States, for treatment, but his health worsened yesterday as his immune system shut down. His mother Ivanna Maletych, who blames herself for Ivan's death, said the boy died this morning at 2.45am after fighting for his life for ten days. The boy’s mother told local media: 'My little son Ivan has gone. He died today at 2:45 am.' Doctor Gennadiy Fuzailov from the Boston hospital said: 'The boy had 5 per cent chances of survival in Ukraine. If he had been transported to us in the first days after the incident, he could have had 30 per cent.' Ivan, pictured on his mother's phone before the accident, was playing in the house before the incident took place Mrs Maletych was with her son when he died and she is not able to forgive herself for his death, reports say. The incident happened as the mother-of-four heated water in a 40-litre cooking pot. She then put it on the floor in the kitchen in her house as she went to a grocery shop to buy some bread, according to reports. Mrs Maletych said: 'Ivan was playing in the house while his elder brother was watching cartoons. Ivanna Maletych, pictured, was in hospital with her baby son when he died this morning 'I think he entered the kitchen and accidentally fell into the cooking pot of boiling water. 'My husband was in the courtyard near the house. He heard screams and rushed to our son.' When he arrived in the kitchen, Mr Maletych realised what had happened, he took Ivan's clothes off and washed him with cold water, the mother said. Mrs Maletych, pictured, had heated water in a 40-litre cooking pot that she put in the kitchen while going to buy some bread from a local shop, according to reports The boy was rushed to the city of Lviv, the capital of the region, where he was admitted to the intensive car unit. He was diagnosed with severe burns on 70 percent of his body including fourth-degree burns.
