Bill Clinton's former spokesman says Donald Trump's White House is approaching media relations the wrong way and should hold press briefings every day to help dilute negative information about the under-siege president. Joe Lockhart, press secretary to Clinton amid his impeachment, told CNN he held daily press briefings to prove that the embattled Democrat wasn't 'self-pitying' and the administration was focused on the 'peoples' business. 'We did press briefings every day during impeachment, and one of the reasons why I think the White House is missing something here, is, we did press briefings during impeachment, and our strategy was, we're not focused on impeachment, we're focused on the peoples' business,' he said on 'New Day' on Friday. Joe Lockhart, press secretary to Clinton amid his impeachment, told CNN he held daily press briefings to prove that the embattled Democrat wasn't 'self-pitying' and the administration was focused on the 'peoples' business Lockhart was equally critical of the current White House press office and the reporters assigned to cover Trump on a daily basis. He said that Trump press secretary Sarah Sanders should take questions from the podium more often, even if she's starring down bad news. 'There are days where you just have to say, you know, got us on this one, let's take our medicine and we'll move on tomorrow or the next day. They have not done that,' he said. He acknowledged that Sanders is in a difficult spot because she's in the Mueller report and reporters are able to search copies of the report and refute her on the spot. Still, he assessed that she would be better off briefing than avoiding the press, aside from short question and answer sessions on the White House drive after television hits that are usually on Fox News. 'Every day, I talked about the peoples' business. And every day, people reported on it. And they saw it. And they saw a president who was not self-pitying, and they a president who was not rage-tweeting - thank God we did not have Twitter - and it was very useful for us,' he said. 'We did press briefings every day during impeachment, and one of the reasons why I think the White House is missing something here, is, we did press briefings during impeachment, and our strategy was, we're not focused on impeachment,' he said on Friday Clinton is pictured with Lockhart on September 29, 2000, during Lockhart's final press briefing at the White House Sarah Sanders does take questions sometimes from the North Lawn of the White House, just outside the West Wing. She's seen during one of those 'driveway gaggles' on Thursday, May 2 Sanders does take questions sometimes from the North Lawn of the White House, just outside the West Wing. Lockhart said the press is 'complicit' in allowing the White House to get away axing the daily briefing, because they're so desperate to get news of the day on camera. 'They're not asking the really tough questions out on the driveway,' he accused. 'Because what Sarah's doing is manipulating there, and saying, I'm going to be out here for five minutes, outside, it's very informal, and what all reporters' instincts are, you know, let's get something news of the day.' He said White House press should get right to the tough questions he claims are missing from the interaction. 'She goes away, and they don't hold her accountable to the much harder questions,' he contended. Sanders has not held a formal news conference with reporters for two months. The last time she stood behind the podium, aside from a kids' briefing she held a week ago on Friday, was on March 11. Lockhart urged the media to tell her in the driveway gaggles 'we're not going to let you get your message out' until you answer our questions. All rights reserved for this news site dailymail and under his responsibility
