Lenard Len Chester, 58, was arrested on Tuesday in Southern California
A man has been arrested and charged with the rape and murder of an 81-year-old woman four decades ago, in a break in the cold case credited to DNA evidence.
Lenard Len Chester, 58, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with the 1980 murder of Leah Sarah Bullis, 81, in her home in Oxnard, California.
Bullis was in her house on a quiet residential block of Coronado Street when a home invader savagely beat her and sexually assaulted her on the morning of December 1, 1981.
Police responded to a call for help at 12.20pm and discovered Bullis barely conscious but able to provide some information. She was rushed to a hospital but died in the ambulance en route.
The medical examiner determined that Bullis died as a result of blunt force-related bleeding.
