AOC hits Massachusetts campaign trail to stump for a college friend running for ...

US Rep. Alexandrio Ocasio-Cortez hasn't endorsed a Democratic presidential candidate yet, but she took time out of her schedule yesterday to campaign for one of her closest friends from college who is running for a local office.

The 29-year-old visited the First Parish Unitarian church in in Brookline, Massachusetts Saturday morning to speak on behalf of Select Board candidate Raul Fernandez.

He and AOC attended college together at Boston University, where she graduated in 2011, seven years before she was elected to Congress.

'I was proud and pleased to support her along her journey and I still do,' Fernandez told the crowd inside the Parish Sanctuary on Saturday. 'There are few people in this world who I tell these words, "When you call, I come, and I got your back," and she's one of those people,' he added before introducing Cortez.

AOC received a standing ovation when she took the stage, where she officially endorsed Hernandez and shared her views on the importance of local civic engagement.

'To come here for a candidate like Raul, I mean there's just no question as to why this race is important,' the congresswoman said. 'In order for us to transform the country... it's not enough for us to go pointing at others and say, "This is how you need to change. This is what you need to do. This is how you're wrong," ... We need to transform our communities to become not just inclusive, but to realize that we are linked.'
