President Donald Trump was set to welcome the reigning World Series champion Boston Red Sox on Thursday, or, as they were referred to on the official White House website, 'The Boston Red Socks.'
The gaffe, which has since been corrected, was caught by Sports Illustrated.
'President Trump Welcomes the 2018 World Series Champions The Boston Red Socks to the White House,' read the official White House website.
The franchise was established in 1901 and has been using the nickname 'Red Sox' since 1908.

Many of the Red Sox will not be making the customary White House visit on Thursday, including reigning MVP Mookie Betts and manager Alex Cora.
Cora has expressed his concern over the hurricane relief effort in his native Puerto Rico.
