Australia's east coast is set to be smashed with torrential rain and winds nearing 100km/hr as a tropical cyclone slowly rolls in.
Tropical Cyclone Ann has strengthened to a category two as it continues to push towards the Queensland coast, promising heavy rain for the state's far north .
The late-season cyclone was on Monday morning located approximately 1070 kilometres east of Cairns, and was moving slowly west-northwest.
Forecasters believe the cyclone will weaken to a tropical low by the time it crosses the coast south of the Lockhart River community in Cape York on Wednesday.
Rains are expected to soak Queensland later this week as a tropical cyclone forms off the state's coast - while the rest of the country looks set for cool but fair weather
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning as Tropical Cyclone Ann strengthened to a category two cyclone as it continues to roll towards the Queensland coast
At 4am on Monday morning, Cyclone Ann sustained winds of 65km/h with gusts to 95km/h.
Far North Queensland can expect heavy rain from Tuesday onwards as a result of theout-of-season cyclone as it moves west across the state and into the Northern Territory.
The rest of the country is set to experience mostly clear weather and cooler
