There was no need to shop for presents for one lucky family out for a Mother's Day walk after they literally stumbled over a huge gold nugget worth over $37,000.

The father, who did not want to be named, said he, his two daughters and the family's pet dog were walking on the outskirts of the gold rush town of Bendigo when they made the find.

'Mum stayed at home so me, my two daughters and Lucky were just walking along. I actually walked right past it but my daughter kicked it as she was walking. She then goes 'Dad, is this gold?' I said, 'I think it might be',' he told Stuff.
