A G4S driver who pleaded guilty to stealing £1million from one of the firm's vans, also blew £1,400 in JD Sports a day after the theft, a court has heard.

Joel March abandoned the cash-in-transit vehicle in a leafy south London street and then fled with the deposit boxes on April 23.

The 36-year-old parked the blue armoured van, emblazoned with the G4S logo, on a double yellow line on Larkhall Rise in Clapham.

It was left there for eight hours before police were finally alerted. The Met Police's elite Flying Squad unit then launched an investigation and the 36-year-old was arrested on suspicion of theft in neighbouring
