An Australian UFC fighter has been taken to hospital in Chile with a blood infection after falling seriously ill during a flight back home.
Alexander 'The Great' Volkanovski, 30, from NSW's Illawarra, shocked spectators with a thrilling underdog victory against Brazilian legend Jose Aldo on Sunday.
The 30-year-old started complaining of sore and raw feet after leaving his Rio de Janeiro hotel on Tuesday, but pressed on and began the long journey to Sydney.
During a connecting flight to Chile, Volkanovski's condition worsened and his left foot began to swell, his manager Rhys Dal Cin told the Illawarra Mercury.
