A Royal Navy warship escorted a Russian destroyer through the English Channel this afternoon.
Devonport-based Type 23 frigate HMS Northumberland was scrambled to meet the Severomorsk, a Udaloy-class guided missile destroyer earlier today.
The destroyer was making its way back to its home port in Russia after operations in the Mediterranean.
