A mechanic has stepped in to save a couple's engagement party after a blunder from the bride-to-be's father.

Ross Davidson was working at a Sydney car garage when he got a call from a distraught Bianca Alchi.

The bride-to-be told him she had borrowed a ute that had accidentally been filled with the wrong petrol, Yahoo reported.

The vehicle had stopped running and Ms Alchi desperately needed it to pick up a few more decorations for her engagement party the next day.
