The video, taken by the Tesla Model 3's Sentry Mode, shows the duo walk towards the car with their faces in full view in Sacramento, California. The car's security system adds a layer of protection and acts like a home alarm system by continuously monitoring its environment when it is left unattended. A Tesla Model 3's inbuilt Sentry Mode captures two men walking towards the car parked next to a pickup truck The car's cameras show the two men wearing caps walk to the side of the Tesla to a Ram pickup truck parked next to it. After inspecting the truck's handle and pointing out some marks, one of the men takes out his keys and appears to drags it along the side of the Tesla Model 3 which costs around $49,000. It is not known if there was a prior incident which caused the men to target the car. The pair then return to the front of the car to admire their handiwork, blissfully unaware they have given the camera another full view of their faces. One of the men appears to point out a mark above the door handle on his Ram truck before the pair appear to decide to take matters into their own hands His friend appears to take a key to the side of the Tesla and scratch it along the body unaware the act is being caught on camera The two men laugh and smile at each other before heading back to the truck. But their apparent vandalism is not complete as one of the pair swings the truck door right into the side of the Model 3. His accomplice then takes his key to the paintwork one final time and appears to scratch along the car's body before getting into the truck. The pair return to the front of the car smiling and laughing with each other, giving the car's camera another chance to see their faces They return to the pickup truck and one of the men opens the car door into the side of the $49,000 car To finish off the job, one of the apparent vandals takes his key out one more time to damage the side of the Tesla It is not known if the owner of the Tesla has reported the incident to the police but it is estimated the damage would cost more than $2,000 to repair, according to CBS Sacramento. This means the two men could face felony vandalism charges. Sentry Mode has already caught out other similar incidents of keying and vandalism thanks to the modern security features. What is Tesla 'Sentry Mode'? Sentry Mode notifies the Tesla's owner of a nearby threat and records what is happening. The security system has to be enabled each time the driver leaves the car, activating its three cameras on the front and sides. When enabled, it enters a standby mode and uses the cameras to detect any potential threat. If Sentry Mode detects a minimal threat, the touchscreen displays a message that the car's cameras are recording If a minimal threat is detected, such as if someone leaned on the car, it switches to an alert state and displays a message on the touchscreen warning that the cameras are recording. If a more severe threat is detected such as someone trying to break the window, Sentry Mode switches to an alarm state which activates the car alarm, increases the brightness of the display, and plays music at its maximum volume. Owners will also receive an alert from their Tesla mobile app telling them an incident has taken place. The owner can then download a video of the incident, which starts recording ten minutes before the threat was detected, by inserting a USB into the car.
