Cold open of SNL's season finale features administration's rendition of ...

Saturday Night Live ended its 44th season with a send-up of President Trump and his administration.

For the last cold open of the season, the SNL cast members who portray the president, his family, top aides, and supporters performed a rousing rendition of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, only with lyrics altered to reflect the chaotic politics roiling America.

Alec Baldwin returned to reprise his imitation of the president, while Cecily Strong played First Lady Melania Trump.

The sketch begins with Trump at his desk in the Oval Office.

‘I’m very excited about summer,’ Trump says. ‘I’ll get around to those things I never have time for: golf, visiting friends in prison, and enjoying all the fantastic new tariffs from Gyna.’

In real life, Trump is known as a president who spends an inordinate amount of time playing golf.

The ‘visiting friends in prison’ is a likely reference to former campaign manager Paul Manafort and former personal lawyer Michael Cohen.

Manafort and Cohen are in prison after they were convicted of crimes related to finance laws.

‘Gyna’ is a mocking reference to the manner in which Trump has pronounced ‘China.’

In real life, the administration is currently engaged in a trade war with China.

In the SNL skit, Trump then boasts of how he has the economy ‘on fire.’

‘I'm not going to tell you if it's a fire that keeps you warm or burns your house to the ground, but it's some kind of fire,’ he says.

‘So I'm on cruise control to a second term and there's nothing the Democrats in Congress can do about it.

‘So sit back and enjoy the ride, America.’

Trump then breaks into song by singing the first lines of Don’t Stop Me Now.

‘Tonight, I’m going to have myself a real good time.

Strong, as Melania Trump, joins the president. She sits on the Resolute Desk and sensually leans back while singing.

‘He feels a-live, live, live, live…’

Trump then sings the next line: ‘And the world, I'll turn it inside out, yeah...’

At this point, SNL cast member Beck Bennett joins the scene as Vice President Mike Pence.

‘And float around in ecstasy…’

Pence and Melania: ‘So don't stop him now.’

Pence, Melania, and Trump: Don't stop him cause he's having a good time, having a good time.’

‘You can't subpoena him. He's gonna obstruct.’

In real life, the Trump administration has fought efforts by Congress to subpoena the president’s tax returns.

Trump has also been accused of obstruction of justice because of alleged actions he took to impede the Mueller investigation into alleged meddling by Russia in the 2016 elections.

The report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller found that there was not enough evidence to charge Trump with conspiring with Russia.

The attorney general, Bill Barr, concluded that there was no obstruction of justice.

‘He's going to hide, hide, hide, there's no showing you.’

Trump, unlike every other president in recent memory, has refused to release his tax returns.

Critics speculate that his reason for refusing to release the returns is because it will reveal that his net worth is lower than he would have the public believe.

Trump: ‘I'm burning every bridge, yeah, picking every fight.’

Melania: ‘It’s why they call him Mr. Bad Advice, cause he listens to the Fox News guys.’

In real life, the president is known to take advice from Fox News hosts like Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs.
