Saturday Night Live ended its 44th season with a send-up of President Trump and his administration. For the last cold open of the season, the SNL cast members who portray the president, his family, top aides, and supporters performed a rousing rendition of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, only with lyrics altered to reflect the chaotic politics roiling America. Alec Baldwin returned to reprise his imitation of the president, while Cecily Strong played First Lady Melania Trump. The sketch begins with Trump at his desk in the Oval Office. ‘I’m very excited about summer,’ Trump says. ‘I’ll get around to those things I never have time for: golf, visiting friends in prison, and enjoying all the fantastic new tariffs from Gyna.’ https://www.youtube.com/embed/ejAjdcRC28Y?feature=oembed SNL mocked President Trump and his senior aides in the administration with a parody set to the tune of Queen's Don't Stop Me Now The sketch begins with Trump at his desk in the Oval Office. Trump is portrayed by Alec Baldwin Cecily Strong, who portrays First Lady Melania Trump, joins the president in song In real life, Trump is known as a president who spends an inordinate amount of time playing golf. The ‘visiting friends in prison’ is a likely reference to former campaign manager Paul Manafort and former personal lawyer Michael Cohen. Manafort and Cohen are in prison after they were convicted of crimes related to finance laws. ‘Gyna’ is a mocking reference to the manner in which Trump has pronounced ‘China.’ In real life, the administration is currently engaged in a trade war with China. In the SNL skit, Trump then boasts of how he has the economy ‘on fire.’ ‘I'm not going to tell you if it's a fire that keeps you warm or burns your house to the ground, but it's some kind of fire,’ he says. ‘So I'm on cruise control to a second term and there's nothing the Democrats in Congress can do about it. Beck Bennett (far right), who portrays Vice President Mike Pence, then joins in White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, played by Aidy Bryant, jumps into the picture ‘He's a loose cannon, rippin' up the laws of society... You can't subpoena him. He's gonna obstruct,’ Sanders sings Melania: ‘He's a billionaire unless you take a look at his tax returns...He's going to hide, hide, hide, there's no showing you’ ‘So sit back and enjoy the ride, America.’ Trump then breaks into song by singing the first lines of Don’t Stop Me Now. ‘Tonight, I’m going to have myself a real good time. Strong, as Melania Trump, joins the president. She sits on the Resolute Desk and sensually leans back while singing. ‘He feels a-live, live, live, live…’ Trump then sings the next line: ‘And the world, I'll turn it inside out, yeah...’ At this point, SNL cast member Beck Bennett joins the scene as Vice President Mike Pence. ‘And float around in ecstasy…’ Pence and Melania: ‘So don't stop him now.’ Pence, Melania, and Trump: Don't stop him cause he's having a good time, having a good time.’ White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, played by Aidy Bryant, joins the scene. Sanders: ‘He's a loose cannon, rippin' up the laws of society... ‘You can't subpoena him. He's gonna obstruct.’ In real life, the Trump administration has fought efforts by Congress to subpoena the president’s tax returns. Trump has also been accused of obstruction of justice because of alleged actions he took to impede the Mueller investigation into alleged meddling by Russia in the 2016 elections. The report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller found that there was not enough evidence to charge Trump with conspiring with Russia. The attorney general, Bill Barr, concluded that there was no obstruction of justice. Melania: ‘He's a billionaire unless you take a look at his tax returns ‘He's going to hide, hide, hide, there's no showing you.’ Trump, unlike every other president in recent memory, has refused to release his tax returns. Critics speculate that his reason for refusing to release the returns is because it will reveal that his net worth is lower than he would have the public believe. Trump: ‘I'm burning every bridge, yeah, picking every fight.’ Melania: ‘It’s why they call him Mr. Bad Advice, cause he listens to the Fox News guys.’ In real life, the president is known to take advice from Fox News hosts like Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs. Pence: ‘I want to make a super straight man out of you.’ In real life, Pence is known for his conservative views on gay rights. All: ‘Don't stop us now we're having such a good time’ Trump: ‘I'm having a ball!’ Everyone: ‘Don't stop us now. ‘You wanna huge distraction.’ At this stage, Kanye West, who is played by SNL cast member Chris Redd, joins the scene. Redd is seen wearing a red ‘Make America Great Again’ hat. In real life, West has declared his support for Trump. Last fall, he famously sat in the Oval Office during a bizarre appearance in which he expressed his admiration for the president. Everyone sings: ‘Don't stop us now, we're having a good time... ‘Don't stop us now, we're having a good time... ‘We don't wanna stop at all.’ The group is then joined by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who is played by Kenan Thompson. Thomas is one of five conservative justices on the Court, which has seen two new judges appointed by the president during his term. Thomas sings: ‘Yeah, the Supreme Court’s ready for a fight on abortion... ‘We got the votes now, women are screwed.’ That line is a reference to strict anti-abortion laws that have been passed by several states with Republican-controlled legislatures. The new laws are likely preludes to legal battles that will likely be decided by the Supreme Court. Melania: ‘It was an issue you thought got resolved 50 years ago... ‘But no, no, no, all men are still in control…’ Trump: ‘I’m such a Bible guy now…’ In real life, Trump has relied on support from evangelical Christians even though the president has led a lifestyle that includes three marriages, alleged extramarital affairs, the running of beauty pageants, the ownership of casinos, and other character traits that call into question his religious devotion. Melania: ‘He's throwing stones and he lives in a big glass house... ‘He cheated on every spouse…’ Pence: ‘I want to make a Chick-fil-A man out of you…’ In real life, Chick-fil-A is a chain of fast food restaurants that has generated controversy because its owners are staunch conservative Republicans who have expressed views considered by many to be homophobic. Everyone: ‘Don't stop me, don't stop me…’ At this point, Wilbur Ross, played by Kate McKinnon, enters the scene. Ross: ‘Do you guys like tariffs?’ Everyone else: ‘Don't stop me, don't stop me.’ Ross: ‘Hundred bucks for a tomato?’ Everyone else: ‘Don't stop me, don't stop me.’ Ross: ‘I ain't sweatin' it.’ In real life, Ross is a billionaire who has been criticized for statements mocking the suggestion that tariffs would significantly impact people’s economic well-being. Sanders: ‘Oh, he's throwing out the lies, yeah... Trump: ‘One tweet at a time…’ Melania: ‘He's got the best and brightest guys…’ ‘That's why most of them are serving time.’ Pence: ‘I want to make a crazy sexy man out of you’ Melania interrupts the song and asks Pence: ‘What are you doing?’ ‘I'm sorry, this Queen music gets me all riled up,’ Pence says. At this point, Trump’s two eldest sons, Don Jr and Eric, enter the scene. Don Jr is played by Mikey Day while Eric is portrayed by Alex Moffat. Donald Trump Jr: ‘Hey, dad, why weren't we invited to sing?’ Eric Trump: ‘Yeah.’ Trump: ‘Son. And Eric. I'm sorry I forgot about you guys.’ Eric: ‘Well, I want to sing the song, too.’ Trump: ‘All right, Eric, go ahead.’ Eric then breaks into song, singing the theme of The Muppet Show. Eric: ‘It's time to play the music... 'It's time to light the lights... 'It's time to meet the Muppets on The Muppet Show tonight.' Trump then says that with the NBA Finals coming up, he needs to ‘invite the three white players over from McDonald's.’ Robert Mueller, played by Robert de Niro, then enters the scene. ‘I have something very important to say to the American people,’ says Mueller. ‘Something they need to hear.’ Trump then interjects: ‘No collusion, no obstruction.’ The song resumes with the Trumps, Eric and Don Jr, Pence, Kanye West, Sanders, and Thomas singing: ‘Don't stop me now...' 'We’re having such a good time... Sanders: 'Just try and impeach...' Everyone: 'Don't stop us now...' Sanders: 'We might even get rid of - freedom of speech...' Everyone: 'Don't stop us now...' Kanye: 'We're having a good time...' Everyone: 'Don't stop us now... 'We're having a good time... 'We don't want to stop at all...' Trump then talks while the others hum the chorus. ‘Guys, it's been fun,’ he says. ‘I don't know what's next for me, but I wouldn't be Donald Trump if I didn't say tune in next season to see who lives and who dies.’ Ross then says: ‘Spoiler, I live. I live for another 150 years. And the iron throne will be mine.’ Trump then says: ‘Have a wonderful summer, America!’ All rights reserved for this news site dailymail and under his responsibility
