While the election result took voters by surprise Scott Morrison and Bill Shorten both knew the likely outcome, it has been claimed. 

Talking to ABC Insiders, columnist Nikki Savva said the internal polls conducted by both parties showed stark differences to what the public was seeing.

'The published polls were certainly very different from the internal polling the Liberal Party were doing … it was picking up big swings in Queensland,' Ms Savva said.  

As the public believed the polls paved the future of Australia, there are suggestions that both Mr Morrison and Bill Shorten weren't as shocked
