Keith Bush was just 17-years-old when he was convicted of killing Sherese Watson, 14, after a Bellport house party they both attended. Tragic Sherese was found strangled to death by someone who also tried to rape her, officials said. Her body was left not far from the house party. Bush, who had no criminal record, was found guilty of second-degree murder and first-degree attempted sexual abuse in April 1976. He went onto serve 32 years plus one additional year for a minor parole violation in Woodbourne Correctional Facility in Sullivan County before his release in 2008. But today a judge overturned his murder conviction making it the longest-running murder case to be vacated in the history of New York. It followed a joint motion by the district attorney’s office and Bush’s attorney to clear Bush's name. Keith Bush spent 33 years in prison for the murder and attempted rape of a 14-year-old girl after a house party but has always maintained his innocence Bush, now 62, has always maintained his innocence and District Attorney Timothy D. Sini’s office announced it supported the motion to have his conviction overturned. Registered as a level-three sex offender and a lifetime parolee Bush petitioned to have his case looked at. Keith Bush was just 17-years-old when he was convicted of killing Sherese Watson, 14, after a Bellport house party they both attended The Suffolk County District Attorney’s office’s Conviction Integrity Bureau found there was a second suspect, John Jones, which was not disclosed to attorneys. Prosecutors now say that second suspect, who has since died, could be the real killer. A year after Watson's death Jones was charged with third degree rape. He later stabbed a man and was arrested several more times. He died in 2006. A witness who said she had been at the party and saw Watson leave with Bush also admitted in 1980 she was not at that party and had lied. Bush also says he was coerced into his confession and forensic evidence is said to show discrepancies. He said police beat and kicked him, adding that he signed the confession without reading it as he 'just wanted my mom'. A DNA test in 2006 is said to have found that tissue under the victim’s fingernails was from another man.
