The British pound rose slightly against the dollar this morning after Theresa May announced she will step down as Prime Minister next month.

Sterling went up to $1.2697 shortly after her announcement at Downing Street in London, but soon fell back to $1.2666, which was its level at the previous close.

Traders are concerned the next PM will want a tougher Brexit deal from the European Union after Mrs May spent two years trying to push through her plans.
