The Australian Tax Office will suggest to Prime Minister Scott Morrison that GST needs to be applied to a broader range of foods.
A new Australian Tax Office proposal to Government claims the way GST is currently applied to foods is confusing and needs to simplified, The Age reported.
Some examples of GST-free foods include meat, dairy, fruit, vegetables and baby formula.
However there can be some grey areas - for instance a pre-packaged salad is understood to be a pre-prepared meal but the industry argues it is fresh food.
