Ms Herron's body was found at Royal Park in Melbourne's inner-north by two dog walkers on Saturday morning.
Henry Hammond, 27, is accused of killing the 25-year-old, who was couch-surfing and sleeping rough in the lead up to her death.
Jessica Bateman, a friend of the victim, said she was beyond devastated to learn of Ms Herron's death, who she described as 'hilarious' and 'generous'.

Ms Bateman spoke of her generosity while recalling the last time she saw Ms Herron two-and-a-half weeks ago.
