The tradie who filmed himself shouting abuse at two off-duty police officers who were riding on the road instead of a purpose-built cycle lane has been fined $1,250. Thomas Harris, 27, recorded himself using a bike lane to overtake the cyclists in his Toytota HiLux while simultaneously shouting profanities. He later posted a video of the incident, which happened on Australia Day, to social media where it was viewed more than three million times. Unfortunately for Mr Harris, who works as a boiler maker, the two cyclists were police officers and he was arrested and charged over the incident . On Tuesday Mr Harris appeared before Kiama Local Court, south of Wollongong where he pleaded guilty to using his phone while driving, offensive language and driving on the path. He had previously tried to argue his sister had recorded the footage but he later admitted that this was not true. Tradesman Thomas Harris (pictured right), 27, was slapped with a $1,250 fine for his 'total stupidity' at Kiama Local Court, south of Wollongong, on Tuesday Magistrate Michael Stoddart said Harris' behaviour was 'total stupidity' and 'extremely dangerous', according to The Illawara Mercury. 'Nothing to be proud of, is it?,' he asked Harris. 'No, your honour,' Harris replied. Harris was forced to complete the Traffic Offenders Program to 'develop positive attitudes towards driving and safer driving behaviours' in April. He said the program 'made me realise, not everything is about me'. 'There is no rush to get anywhere and to be more patient,' he said. The Jamberoo bike path drew the ire of locals when it was first constructed in 2014, with angry farmers saying it was 'second rate' and 'shortsighted'. The original cycleway cost $470,000 and was opened to the public in 2012, but it ended at the head of Swamp Road. There was then an extension built, which continues along Swamp Road, which cost about $63,000. The extension was made under a strict time restraint, as a $100,000 grant from the NSW roads authority was due to expire midway through 2014. Harris' (pictured) solicitor Matt Ward said his defendant 'will now always be known as the guy who uploaded the video of the cyclists at Jamberoo' Harris' solicitor Matt Ward said his defendant's reputation is ruined forever. 'He will now always be known as the guy who uploaded the video of the cyclists at Jamberoo,' Mr Ward said. Mr Harris was stripped of 16 demerit points by Roads and Maritime Services since the incident happened during a double-demerit period. He was fined $500 for each driving offence and $250 for his offensive language. A GoFundMe campaign started by a stranger raised over $4,000 to cover his legal costs. Harris said donated the money to Motor Neurone Disease research instead of keeping it. A GoFundMe campaign (pictured) started by a stranger raised over $4,000 to cover his legal costs. 'What's the point of us spending this money if you're not going to use it, you f**king d***heads,' Harris is allegedly heard shouting at the cyclists. One cyclist is heard responding: 'Pull over, so I can have a chat'. 'F*** off, f***ing idiot... use the bike track!' the driver allegedly shot back. The clip sparked a social media storm, with a surprising number of users rushing to defend the driver, joking he should be 'Australian of the Year'. But cyclists were critical, described his driving as dangerous and Harris personally as 'an absolute sausage'.
