Gale-force winds and three inches of rain to lash Britain starting tonight

Gale-force winds are set to batter Britain over the next few days as the remnants of Storm Miguel hit the country, bringing up to three inches of rain.

Those planning a weekend outdoors might need to reschedule as thunderstorms and hail are poised to sweep the entire country after a mainly dry but chilly night this evening.

The left overs of the Spanish storm could lead to powerful winds coming across the English channel, before arriving in Cornwall tomorrow.

Today will reach a high of 64.4F, with clouds throughout the day, with them eventually clearing late afternoon. There will be some showers today according to the Met Office, who said the heaviest showers will be over central and southwestern parts of the UK and could turn thundery.

The best of the sunshine is set to be on the south coast of England, with clouds and persistent rain over northern Scotland and the Northern Isles.

The temperature will then drop in the early hours of Friday morning, bringing showers to those facing the morning commute.

Heavy winds can be seen gaining on the UK from Friday and could cause travel disruption for those getting out and about over the weekend

The Met Office highlighted that Storm Miguel could affect the UK, despite the fact that it wont actually be classified here.

The storm has been named by the Spanish Met office as a low pressure system, by the time the low pressure reaches the UK it ferocity will have died down - but it will still cause disruptive conditions.

Some parts of the UK have already been covered in rain this week with Northern Ireland having been given a yellow rain warning from the UK Met Office.

The weather coming over from Storm Miguel is however set to miss Northern Ireland, with areas such as south west Scotland and Wales to experience the highest rainfall levels.
