St Joseph's College in Spring Hill, which charges boarding students over $45,000 a year, sent a letter to parents and students explaining the new rules last month. P-plate students who want to give their friend a lift must get written permission from their parents and the driver's parents on a school-issued form. The letter, obtained by the Courier Mail, sent by Acting Dean of Students Damien Cuddihy said students would be given a weekend detention for breaking the rules. St Joseph's College in Spring Hill said in a letter to parents and students last month that they are clamping down on P-plate drivers 'The College has a legal responsibility to take all reasonable measures to ensure the welfare and safety of both staff and students,' the letter read. The letter then goes on to list conditions which students must follow, including: '1: Students are not allowed to take any passengers other than siblings between school and Tennyson either before or after school. '2: In order to travel with a student driver from Terrace to or from home and school passengers (other than siblings) must have permission from both their parent/guardian and the driver's parent/guardian. '3: Our legal responsibilities to providing a 'Duty of Care' for students enrolled at the College means they are not allowed to leave the school grounds during school hours to top up parking meters or move cars. '4: Students are not permitted to part at the Centenary Pool car park due to the Brisbane Council's time limits to legally park in this area for extended periods of time.' It has also been reported that students Stuartholme School at Toowong have also been discouraged from giving lifts to classmates Specialist injury lawyer Luke Murphy told the publication it was unlikely the school would have a duty-of-care to students on their journey to and from school, however, between school and the sporting facilities may be different.
