The trophy awarded to Aussie tennis champion Ash Barty after she won the French Open has a not-so-subtle blunder on it that dates back more than 40 years.

Australia's new golden girl was handed the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen after winning at Roland Garros on Saturday against Czech Marketa Vondrousova. 

Barty is the first Australian to win the French Open in 46 years, with legend Margaret Court being the last Aussie to win the singles title back in 1973. 

But a keen-eyed photographer picked up on an error etched into the silver trophy, that said there had been an Australian winner in 1976 too.
