Leam Joseph Flegler was speeding along Mooloolaba Esplanade, on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, at about 7am when he suddenly made a right turn and hit the kerb before ploughing into Cracked Pepper restaurant. Flegler's car became airborne, hit a traffic sign, destroyed several exotic shrubs, smashed into a rock wall and crashed into the cafe, before finally landing on top of the marquee. Crowds who were part of the breakfast rush and preparing for the ceremony scrambled out of the car's way before calling for ambulances, Maryborough Magistrates Court heard this week. A driver high on ice interrupted a young couple's big day after crashing his car into their marquee as they prepared to tie the knot The court heard Flegler was taken to hospital after the crash on September 15, 2017, where he tested positive for ice, according to the Fraser Coast Chronicle. He pleaded guilty to driving while high on drugs. His defence lawyer successfully argued against another charge of illegally using a motor vehicle, for which he was already jailed on November 8. The magistrate, however, said jail time was justified for the remaining charges and he kept his parole release date at June 20. Flegler was convicted and sentenced to five months in jail and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
