Joe Biden told a crowd at a campaign rally on Tuesday he plans to 'cure cancer' if he is elected president in 2020.

The former Vice President was speaking at an event in Ottumwa, Iowa, on the same day Donald Trump flew into the state.

Biden, whose son Beau died from brain cancer back in 2015, called finding a cure for the disease the 'single most important thing that changes America'.

'A lot of you understand what loss is,' Biden said, 'When loss occurs a lot of people come up to you and say "I know how you feel". But you feel like saying "You have no idea how I feel".

'I promise you if I'm elected president, you're going to see the single most important thing that changes America, we're gonna cure cancer,' he added.

Biden has been responsible for a number of cancer initiatives in the past.

During his time in office with Barack Obama he headed the 'Cancer Moonshot' programme'.
