NSW Police on Thursday evening said they'd charged a 28-year-old man with murder after the younger man's body was found by Corrective Services staff at Silverwater's Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre about 6.30am. The suspect Peter Juyong Ahn was previously charged with inflicting grievous body harm on a cellmate in Parklea in April. Despite this Corrective Services still housed him in a cell with another prisoner. A 24-year-old inmate was found beaten to death in his cell at Silverwater prison (pictured) at a correctional facility on Thursday morning 'There is no indication as far as we are aware of in these initial phases of the investigation that this was about to occur,' Assistant Commissioner of NSW Police Custodial Corrections, Kevin Corcoran, told https://twitter.com/7NewsSydney/status/1139083438290423808. 'I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of this particular man.' The accused will appear before the Burwood Local court on Friday. 'Every aspect of the incident, including management and placement of the inmates involved, response times and action, will be thoroughly reviewed,' a police spokeswoman said in a statement. She said like all deaths in custody, Thursday's incident would be subject to a coronial inquest. This is the second case of an inmate death at Silverwater since January.
