Shocked couple discover 'Kermit' toad tucking in to their punnet of Asda ...

A couple were stunned to discover what they thought was a 'rotting strawberry' in a newly-bought and Asda punnet was actually a live toad.

Luke Bown, 23, from Barnsley, and his fiancee Leanne Anderson, 35, didn't notice the tiny creature until they unpacked their shopping last week.

Footage shows the tiny toad - which the couple thought was a frog - sitting at the bottom of the sealed punnet beneath a mound of juicy Scottish strawberries.

Ms Anderson realised the toad was there when she saw what she thought was the 'rotting strawberry' staring out at her and she shouted for Mr Bown to come and see.

The couple said the toad had nibbled on some of the strawberries and they were amazed it had survived the packaging process, time spent on the supermarket shelves and the four-hour trip from Scotland to Barnsley.

After telling ASDA about the bizarre find, they returned the toad to the store where they had bought the strawberries and it was later released by staff.

In his video, Mr Bown holds up the punnet to the camera and zooms in on the toad, which is just sitting, its throat bulging in and out as it breathes.

Mr Bown, who thought the toad was a frog, said: 'I wasn't shocked there was a frog there because you've heard the stories before, but I was shocked it was still alive more than anything.

'It had an eventful trip around the UK from Scotland, ended up in Barnsley of all places, and it happened to myself.
