Twitter users have poked fun at Esther McVey for being eliminated in the first round of the Tory leadership battle following her spat with Lorraine Kelly.

Ms McVey received just nine votes this morning - missing the cut off of 17 to stay in the contest, and coming dead last out of 10 nominees.

Now Brits have taken to the social media platform to mock the MP for Tatton in Cheshire, with one posting a picture of the ITV presenter laughing alongside the caption: 'We now go live to Lorraine!'

It quickly escalated into a tit-for-tat, with Ms McVey claiming she was promoted above Mrs Kelly at GMTV, before the star hit back saying she was 'baffled' by the claim.

The apparent row has dominated the headlines in recent days, and last night a friend claimed that Ms McVey blames Labour-supporting Fiona Phillips, Kate Garraway and Gloria De Piero - all GMTV stars - for her feud
