A woman thanked a traffic warden who let her park for free by buying him a doughnut - but returned an hour later to find he had ticketed her car.
Christine Spanner, 66, was doing some shopping in Heanor, Derbyshire, when she arrived at the Market Place car park to find the machines out of order.
A parking attendant told her that cars were only allowed to park free for an hour and, even though the machines weren't working, he would issue tickets for any that overstayed.

But Mrs Spanner said that after a brief chat, the parking attendant decided to use his powers of discretion and told her she could take her time without worrying about a ticket.
Mrs Spanner said: 'I went down to Birds and bought him a cream doughnut. I said 'here you are, I've bought you a cake, all you need now is a nice cup of tea with that'.'
