A two-year-old girl, whose mother tragically died from cancer at the age of 23 has been given a teddy bear with the voice of her in order to remember her by.

Penelope Turner was just 15-months-old when her mother Kirsten Hawksey died on Christmas Day 2017.

Her thoughtful aunt has made sure that the youngster will never forget her mother and has now personalised her Build-A-Bear toy by filling her teddy bear with recordings of her mother telling her how much she loves her.

Now every time little Penelope squeezes the bear she calls 'mummy' she can hear Kirsten laughing, blowing kisses and telling her she loves her.

They have also soaked Penelope's socks in Kirsten's favourite Tom Ford perfume and placed them inside the teddy so the little girl can smell her mother as well as listen to her.

Kirsten, from Liverpool, was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia on November 27.

She had noticed bruising on her legs which she initially ignored.

After the bruising worsened Ms Hawksey went to the doctors and, following blood tests, was immediately admitted to the Royal to begin chemotherapy.

Kirsten's aunt Kellie Baines said she had always been worried that Penelope would forget what her mother sounded like and that she would never be able to hear her speak or laugh.

'I put the different videos I had of Kirsten together into the teddy bear.

'One is of her laughing and another is of her saying 'Penelope.' Then there's one of her saying I love you and another of her blowing a kiss.

'It's the little things like this that we take for granted because we can speak to our mums and hear them before we go to sleep of a night. It's about closeness so Penelope has a little piece of her mum while she's growing up.'

In order to keep Kirsten's memory alive and give back to the charity which helped her throughout her short illness - The Teenage Cancer Trust, the family have also raised nearly £17,000 through a number of events.

The most recent event known as 'The Kirsten Cup' saw young Penelope leading teams of football players out
