Porn stars, activists and models to picket Instagram HQ over site's ...

Adult performers are headed to Instagram's headquarters in Silicon Valley on Wednesday to protest the company's guidelines pertaining to nudity in photos.

The protest will be spearheaded by porn stars but will also include other adult performers, queer activists, sex educators and models.

While the grievances have little to do with the enforcement of guidelines, the picketers do feel that Instagram fails its users by not providing details on which standards were violated or how to restore accounts once suspended.

Amber Lynn, an American porn star based in Los Angeles, told the Guardian that her account was terminated two months ago. She was given little warning and lost more than 100,000 followers.

'I sent [Instagram] multiple emails through my lawyer and they will still not tell me why they did it,' she said. 'They do not answer you, do not give you an opportunity to correct any problems or even tell you what problems they had to begin with so you can avoid it in the future.'

Lynn added that she was distraught over the loss of five years of portfolio work, along with videos and images of her brother - who passed away.

The porn actress added: 'There was a lot of stuff that was not just content of me as a model and an actor but private, personal mementos that were lost just because they can take it with the flick of a switch. And Instagram doesn't care.'

According to Adult Performers Actors Guild, the largest labor union for the adult film industry, Instagram has removed more than 1000 adult performers from its platform in 2019.

In April, the union asked Facebook to offer more explanation behind account terminations.

'In the large majority of instances, there was no nudity shown in the pictures. However, it appears that the accounts were terminated merely because of their status as an adult performer,' James Felton, the union's legal counsel, said. 'Efforts to learn the reasons behind the termination have been futile.'

Felton added that they would consider a 'legal route' if Facebook's response doesn't suffice,

Instagram claims that as their user numbers increased, the number of suspended accounts also increased.
