A man and a woman who were shot while walking their dog took cover in a bus stop as an accused gunman opened fire from his balcony, police allege.

Officers were called to a Gorman street bus stop in Sunnybank in Brisbane's south at about 7.20am on Saturday, where the pair in their 20s were found with multiple gunshot wounds.

The man, who had wounds to his chest, is fighting for his life at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The woman, who was shot twice in the leg, is also in the same hospital but is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

One resident told The Courier-Mail: 'They were lying there bleeding waiting for the ambulance.'
