Country singer Granger Smith has returned to performing, debuting a new tattoo in honor of his youngest son, who died in a tragic drowning accident.

River, age three, drowned in the pool at the family's home in Georgetown, Texas, earlier this month.

The 39-year-old country singer played the last night of a three-day country music festival in Chicago with the name 'River' inked in script on his right forearm.

Smith's wife and River's mom, Amber, paid tribute to their child in her own way, with a touching Instagram post from the road with their two older children.

Amber's post was filled with meaning derived from moments that remind her of River while being back on the road with their two children, Lincoln, age five, and London, age seven.

'We just happened to be in the same city as the "biiiigggggggest T-Rex" ever found. We had to make a trip to see it in honor of River.' she wrote on Sunday, tagging the post in Chicago.

'This dinosaur was discovered in FAITH, South Dakota by a woman named Sue. And he died by a River [heart emoji]. Open your eyes and you will see signs all around you. We think just maybe, Riv is having the best time of his life in Heaven with this [Tyrannosaurus Rex emoji].'

Amber shared a photo of a dinosaur discovered in the city of Faith in Arkansas, that had died in river, and how she felt it meant her son was 'having the best time of his life in Heaven with this [Tyrannosaurus Rex emoji].' Amber went to describe how challenging it's been to have to return to traveling and everyday life without their youngest son, and how the very thing that's given her comfort is also her biggest challenge.

'Getting back on the road and back into daily life without River has not been easy in the slightest,' she wrote.

'Every single thing reminds me of him, and all I can think about is how he would love exploring and seeing all that we are seeing. I see his name everywhere, I see little red-headed toddlers everywhere. I miss his silly personality and his bright light. I see his face in our other kiddos. I have this pit in my stomach constantly, because I’m trying to make life as normal as possible for our other 2 incredible kiddos, London and Lincoln, while hurting so bad inside.

'I look around at everyone else and wonder if anyone is going through something like we are. Dumb little things don’t matter anymore. My family does. My faith does. We’ve got this, because God’s got us [cross emoji]. Thank you all for your continued support, prayers and love. It really does help us so much. #livelikeriv'

On Wednesday, the singer took to social media to share his own perspective on living life without River, and details about their final moments with their son.

In a YouTube video titled Finding Light In Our Darkest Time, Smith said he remembered thinking to himself just before the accident: 'Soak up this moment because it's not going to last.

'Between 30 seconds and three minutes, we don't know, Amber and I are inside our pool gate doing CPR on our son.'
