White Sox SS Anderson exits with sprained ankle

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson exited in the bottom of the fifth inning against the host Boston Red Sox on Tuesday due to a sprained right ankle.

The White Sox announced later in the game that X-rays were negative and that Anderson would be re-evaluated Wednesday.

Anderson was making a running throw on a groundball hit by J.D. Martinez when he appeared to lose his footing and crumpled to the dirt. He stayed on the ground for several minutes with a trainer checking his ankle before he was helped off the field by the trainer and manager Rick Renteria.

Anderson didn't put any weight on his right foot as he was helped off.

The 26-year-old is in the midst of a breakout season for the White Sox. He entered Tuesday's game hitting .313 with 11 home runs and 15 stolen bases in 268 at-bats.

Anderson had doubled and singled in three at-bats before the injury. He was replaced by Ryan Cordell, who took over in center field while Leury Garcia was moved to short.
