Country singer Jason Owen has made a heart-breaking plea after returning home to find his family farm ravaged by drought.

The former X Factor star was visiting 91-year-old grandfather at his hometown Albert, in western New South Wales, this week when he filmed the emotional video.

In the video posted to Facebook, the 25-year-old shared his anguish over the struggle his family and other farmers are facing due to the drought.

'I've got to be honest with everyone, this absolutely breaks my heart to come home and see this,' he says.

'I'm here at the bottom of a dam, there's no feed, there's no water for livestock and wild life.

'There's nothing. There's no rain for farmers to grow a crop. People don't understand how hard it is out here. It breaks my heart every time to come home and see this.'

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Mr Owen said it was painful to witness the place where he had grown up in such a devastating state.

'It really hit me hard to see how horribly dry it is, the livestock suffering, and also just knowing how hard it must be for everyone in the drought affected areas to survive during this terrible time.

He said he posted the video in the hopes of spreading awareness about how tough it has been for farmers.
