A mother and daughter have been arrested in Spain after they reported the younger woman's boyfriend to police for failing to organise a contract killing.

The pair, who have not been named, told detectives they had been cheated out of £6,272 (€7,000) by the man who claimed he was a government spy.

He allegedly told them he needed the money as a deposit to find the mother's partner and to hire hitmen to assassinate him.
