Major Subaru recall announced in Australia By Kylie Stevens For Daily Mail Australia Published: 06:40 BST, 27 June 2019 | Updated: 07:23 BST, 27 June 2019 282 shares Viewcomments Subaru Australia has announced a major recall on 77 of its vehicles after 'imperfections' were found in replacement ignition switches. The Japanese car manufacturer issued an urgent recall on older-generation models to replace potentially faulty ignition switches installed between February 19 2017 and and April 14 2019. Vehicles fitted with the affected spare part could see the key position switch from ON to ACC position while the vehicle is moving. 'This will cause the engine to stop running and the power supply to the SRS airbag system will be cut,' Subaru said in a statement to caradvice.com.au. 'If the engine stops running, the vehicle will unexpectedly slow down and stop, posing an accident hazard to the occupants of the vehicle and other road users. 'If the vehicle was involved in a collision at this time, the airbag system would not react as designed, increasing the risk of injury to the driver and/or vehicle occupants.' Affected models include: Liberty - MY2004-2014 Outback - MY2004-2014 Forester - MY2009-2013 Tribeca - MY2006-2014 Exiga - MY2009-2018 Impreza - MY2008-2011 WRX/WRX STI - MY2008-2014. Known owners will be contacted by Subaru Australia to be booked in for an inspection, where a replacement switch will be installed free of charge. Concerned owners can also contact Subaru Australia's Customer Relations Team on 1300 550 994 to be booked in for an inspection. It comes after Subaru Australia recalled more than 121,000 vehicles in March to fix a potential fault which caused the brake lights to fail.
