Travellers are facing chaos as at least 10 flights have been cancelled and many more delayed at Sydney Airport after thick fog blanketed the city. 

Delays of up to 30 minutes have been reported at the international terminal while even longer delays of up to 45 minutes are likely for domestic flights. 

Multiple airlines and both inbound and outbound flights have been affected. 

Sydneysiders woke up to the thick fog covering the city early this morning which had begun to clear by 10am revealing a clear sunny day.

Further south Melbourne is set for a wet and windy weekend with a max of 16 degrees on Saturday. 

The coming week will also see cool temperatures and showers with a max of 15 until Tuesday. 

In Sydney, the thick fog affected visibility causing delays on the roads as well as at the airport.
