Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs has died aged 27, the team announced Monday.

'It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier today in Texas,' a statement from the Angels said.

'Tyler has, and always will be, an important part of the Angels Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his entire family during this devastating time.'

No information about cause of death has been released.

Skaggs had posted a photo with his teammates on a road trip through Texas the day before he died. He is survived by his wife Carli, whom he married late last year.
