Guilt-ridden thieves targeted a number of farmhouses in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, stealing $100,000 in jewellery and tools before leaving bizarre apology notes.

Police say five farmhouses near Eumundi have been targeted by opportunistic robbers who slept in beds, ate food and in one case chopped down a bothersome tree for a neighbour.
