A French centre-right MP has been ridiculed for an apparently misleading photo which shows him scaling an almost vertical mountain. 

Eric Woerth has been accused of rotating the angle of the photo of him climbing a summit in the Alps, to make the climb look more treacherous than reality.  

The photo was tweeted by the politician on Monday with the caption 'Always on the front foot,' and he has since faced a barrage of accusations claiming that the photo is, in fact, a fake. 

Eagle-eyed Twitter users found several elements of the photo that appear to defy the law of gravity. 

The most obvious give-away is two people in the background, who seem to be walking upright at a 90 degree angle from the snow-covered mountain.
