An elderly couple who have been married for more than 50 years have died in a car crash in Sydney’s west before a deliveryman with an international licence was charged. 

Ute passenger Carmen Sant, 81, died at the intersection of Crawford Road and Coveny Street in Doonside about 10pm on Saturday before her husband Frank Sant, 83, who was driver, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

Mr Sant died in Westmead hospital on Sunday afternoon surrounded by family and friends.  

A 22-year-old Indian national, who was driving a Nissan Pulsar when the car collided with the couple's vehicle was arrested, taken to to the same hospital for mandatory testing and then charged with a string of driving offences.
