An Australian man who was rescued after being stranded at sea off Bali has allegedly been found with methamphetamine under the bed of his boat.

Anthony Haritos, 63, drifted off the coast of Sumba Island in Indonesia for four days after his catamaran was damaged by a freak wave. 

The Darwin businessman could up to face 12 years in prison under Indonesia's hard-line drug laws.

Haritos was arrested and charged with drug offences after police allegedly saw a social media post showing a man who looked like him with similar tattoos taking drugs.
