The mother of a 17-week-old baby who was killed by her former partner has tearfully told a Melbourne court she has been robbed of watching her smiling, happy baby grow up.

Erin Baylis-Clarke said she regularly took a blanket to the cemetery and spent hours lying next to her son's grave because she could not bear to be apart from him.

Kaleb Baylis-Clarke died from a severe brain bleed in hospital in January 2016, about a week after his mother's then-boyfriend, Jesse Vinaccia, 26, shook or manhandled him while she was at work.
